Additionally, was responsible for the management of Pay per Click (PPC) campaigns using Google Adwords and also for the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) of the site.
Woodlands School - July 01 - August 06
Employed with the initial task of creating the school Intranet. The brief was to make the Intranet interesting for the children to use, but mainly to make it easy to use. The children in the school have a full range of abilities and the Intranet should be accessible for everyone.
Due to an existing design, HTML was primarily used in the first instance. Due to the amount of pages involved (over 2 years, approximately 4000) SSI's were used extensively to include menu systems, database connections etc. Fireworks was used to build and manipulate graphics, with ASP being used with Access for dynamic parts of the site, such as staff lists and areas that change on a regular basis.
Was tasked in July 03 to audit the Intranet and investigate the conversion of the intranet into a dynamic, database driven site. It was decided that PHP, Apache and MySQL were to be used, as costs were a factor. By Dec 03 the new site had been completed. The site was developed using Dreamweaver, CSS, Fireworks and PHPMyAdmin to administer MySQL. The site was completed with less than 50 pages / includes in total, meaning site wide updates were much easier and general administration of the site was much easier. Pages and navigation systems were built dynamically. In addition to this an admin area was built to allow users to upload files to share between departments and users within the school. A secure staff area was built to house sensitive material.
Other tasks included an online pupil mark tracking system, departments were able to enter pupils grades into a web based database to share amongst their respective departments. Additional tasks have included building interactive resources such as online quizzes, an online room booking system and developing online registering to help with truancy. All of these tasks were completed using PHP & MySQL.
In addition to the Intranet, was also tasked with the construction of the Woodlands School website - www.woodlandsschool.org. This was constructed using PHP, MySQL and CSS. In addition to this front end, a Content Management System was also constructed to allow non-technical staff to add to, update and administer the Internet.
In addition to the tasks of developing features and applications for the Intranet and Internet sites, was also required to manage areas of the Intranet. This involved liaising with area content managers, to ensure that content was kept up to date and relevant. Was also required to advise the school ICT director as to what was and was not feasible for the Intranet, including finding alternatives for applications which they felt we needed.
